Hobbits and giant waves

Just a very quick update, since I don't have much time on this computer. When I got to Raglan (the surfing place), a huge storm hit! I kid you not, the waves were higher than a two storey house - needless to say I didn't surf. Even the surfers from Alaska described the conditions as "just too gnarly man". So I just spent some time chilling out in the laid back environment.
Went to Hobbiton - no hobbits at hokme though. Still, pretty cool to go to the place where the only remaining part of Lord of the Rings set is. Nice place, you should go.
I am now in a town called Te Aroha, which is not far from where the North Island gold rush was going on about 100 years ago. Been out walking in one of the local gorges today and will go up the local mountain tomorrow.
Sorry this is brief, but more chat soon.
By the way - Rift Zone eh Rob? Nicely new experience? Get yerself down Afan way.

What 2o feet high and choppy out the back? Sounds like a serious day in 'the pit'. Yeah, big wave riding is for macho arzoles dude. Change your life, swear te God. Just chill . . .

Rift zone is a 'totaly new experience'. Found the Haro a hoon around the forest, getting the back end 'right out' but the Rift is just a bit nimbler and zippy round the 'beast of the east' and other tighter sections. With 100mm of travel front and back (with lock-out on each) it's just great.

Out again on Saturday with Ian and Zibbs. Due a crash soon. Might have to buy some leg protectors a la David Forbes/Phil Phil from Shooters Hill. Just would like the rider skills of Mr Orange to compliment the bloody bike.

Afan. Yes please.

Look out for Ring Wraithes (sp?). Soreskins

Hey big boy! Just spent 20 minutes reading through your diary and it sounds like your having a great time (good on Ya). Find myself being somewhat envious of the freedom you are enjoying (long time since I did the big trip thing).
Lost me job on the 1st of this month (Yahoooooo)and am now spending quality time with wife and kids but am preparing for ski safari with Jake in early December.
Stay well and take care.
love to you from the Harraway's
